Spring & Kitty Lou
Spring & Kitty Lou both arrived about a week ago. The forsythia bloomed, the tulips and daylilies are growing (at least the ones that were treated with deer repellent), the lilacs are leafing out, the mums and lilies are beginning to make an appearance, and the chives, tarragon, and oregano are ready to use. Radishes, peas, lettuce, asparagus, onions, cabbage and maybe some kohlrabi are sprouting in the garden. Kitty Lou and I went to the garden store and I, as usual, bought more than necessary but I got the lilies of the valley planted yesterday - I really hope they make it - they're such a lovely little flower.
It is fun having Kitty Lou here - we play Skip-Bo in late afternoon and she joined us once for a game of Bocce. KL and I made 3 dozen oatmeal cookies the other evening and the three of us ate them all that evening. We talked about her Columbus, Ohio days - when she first went to Columbus to work she stayed at the YWCA. The dining room at the Y where the "young ladies" ate had tablecloths and napkins but you had to use the same napkin for a week - presumably you kept the same seat all week. She was a steno at the state offices and would correct the letters of her boss when she thought he had made an error; sometimes, he agreed and sometimes he didn't. One time they each contacted a teacher to determine who was correct. KL's teacher said she was correct; his teacher said he was correct but it was a really awkward way to say something. He wrote KL after Leo died to tell her that if she wanted/needed a job, he would be happy to have her back.
