Spring started at the end of March this year; plants started poking through the ground, the tulips were spectacular, the lilacs had buds. Then the weather did a turnaround in early April had we had freezing temperatures at night for a week. Everything that was poking through the ground froze and the lilacs dropped their buds. The freeze apparently interrupted the growth cycle of the iris and peonies and there were very few blooms. Most everything else was slowed down but recovered and after six years the "mock orange" at the end of the deck finally bloomed. It's blossoms are very fragrant and last well indoors. A highlight of spring was the "Ladies Week at the Farm" (13 females ages 2 1/2 to 91); it was a fun, interesting time and everyone was a good sport about everything. In the vegetable world, the asparagus season was great; we're eating lettuce and spinach now and hopefully before long beets and kohlrabi. And today C had her first golf lesson - not ready to join the senior circuit yet, but it is a lot of fun when you hit the ball correctly and it flies into the air.

See if you can delay harvesting the kohlrabi until July when we come visiting - it's one of Magda's favorite veggies and it would be great to see it in the ground.
Although, many kohlrabi species do get woody if you don't pick them in time. But some, like this gigantic one apparently don't.

if the kohlrabi is half as good as the asparagus is, I want a piece of that action.

We'll take it if you don't end up liking it!

We're not completely convinced about the kohlrabi. But we shall see...
