Scorched Earth

Three huge piles of tree limbs have been in our back pasture for about two years. Yesterday, Pat decided it was time to burn them. He could only get to one pile and got it going. The fire spread over the pasture burning all of the dead growth as well as the pile of tree limbs. I wasn't too worried although didn't like to hear Pat say, "I kind of wish I hadn't started this - hope it doesn't get to Leavenworth county." He did have to water down a couple of areas but otherwise it is all okay. There was a big, old, dead tree that we thought was kind of picturesque especially with a hawk sitting in it, but it slowly burned down as well.

Leah:

I am happy to know that you are still in your home - and that Patrick is, too. Perhaps it is fortunate that you have enjoyed so much recent rain in the Heartland.
