Harry Potter und der Stein der Weisen

I finally finished Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone auf Deutsch. Those who speak multiple languages will not see that this is much to brag about, but it was a milestone for me. Eliz bought it for me quite some time ago and I started it quite some time ago but in the last few weeks I really got into it. It was very enjoyable and a great book to read in a foreign language.

Yes, thank you very much, I do recognize Henry Skupin's name and would not have said such a thing. But I understand my cousin doing it, since I (and probably most of the rest of you) get spammers' comments in old blog entries all the time as they try to increase the number of links to their sites to improve their search engine results. I always delete such comments immediately.

P&C:

Oops - sorry Liz - I should have said Jfer. I thought Liz would know who Henry is!

P&C:

You mean like "Muggels" and stuff? I had not read it in English or seen the movie. Actually I didn't pick it, but it was a good book to read because it had so much conversation in it. Now I can start on our bookcase section full of German authors but not sure I'm ready for Durrenmatt!

Liz - Henry wouldn't like to be called a spammer! Henry is a long time friend of Pat's who was at one time Pat's boss at Texaco. He had our e-mail address wrong but remembered our website.

Reading Harry Potter in German must have been tough, what with all the made up words that are used in the book.
Did you read it first in English? Or why did you pick Harry Potter, as opposed to a book by a German author?
When I first got immersed in English, I really enjoyed reading juvenilia since there are fewer (and more useful) words to look up in a dictionary. Much more enjoyable than trying to understand The Scarlet Letter, my first assigned book in school here. I don't think I read anything as fat as Harry Potter for a long time, though.

Jfer:

Wow! What an accomplishment. Congrats!

I imagine you know this already, but unless you actually know Henry Skupin, you definitely shouldn't respond to his comment. Down will all spammers...down with all spam blog comments...grrr!

Henry Skupin:

pkarl@grasshopper.com was rejected. Send me an email and I will capture you email address.

Daughter:

Well done, Mom! I'm glad you enjoyed reading it; I was hoping it would be a fun way to practice your German.
