It started in Baltimore when I arrived at the airport for my flight home and the airport had been evacuated from flight waiting areas - rumor had it that someone jumped over security - can't quite visualize that but in any case someone had breached security. There were about 500 people milling around in the lobby, ticket desk area. People were grumbly but orderly. The one noticeable thing that should be part of the security equipment was a battery operated microphone - TSA people tried to shout information and instructions which only about 25 people really heard. Fortunately, it was only a 45 minute wait and things started moving again. By that time someone had found a mike and they sent people through security based on flight departure - mine left on time.
It ended when I got home and we had no electricity - this used to happen when they were building the road but it hadn't happened in a long time. We sat on the deck until it got dark and then lit candles inside. Of course, I thought it was romantic; Pat thought it was awful to "not be able to do anything"; he wanted to find out what the problem was so he drove around the area looking for the malfunctioning sub-station. Electricity finally came back on around 9:30 PM and then went off again when a storm came through and knocked it out again. Obviously, all is okay now.

Touche, Stepan - I think I pointed out an "ie - ei" misspelling to you on your blog instructions a couple of months ago. Of course, what I should have said is that I deliberately misspelled it to show what a weird day it was!

Stepan--she's my mom, I can't make those kinds of comments to her. Any other family member, I would have been ALL over it. :-)
And Daddy, if you would make your own entries in the blog that you pestered Mom to set up, then you wouldn't have misconceptions to correct . . .

Reading the title of this entry made me look up this interesting article. I'm disappointed Elizabeth hasn't mentioned anything by now ;-)

I have been corrected - he wasn't looking for the substation - he was checking to see the extent of the outage and chatting with our neighbors.

I noticed from reading your entry that a storm had come through and knocked out your power again around 9:30pm, then you said everything is ok now....But at 5:59 in the morning?? What did you and Pat do for all those hours??? :)

My, that sounds a bit incestuous to me. Married only a few months and already looking for outside diversions?
What a catastrophe that day was for you, Mom! That's amazing your flight actually left on time.
I love the thought of Daddy driving around looking for the substation. Clearly reaching his sixties has not brought him any kind of serenity. :-)

I'm with you Cynthia in thinking a blackout is romantic. My newly wedded mind can think of lots of things to do by candle light ;-) Have Pat give me a call next time this happens if he's looking for any ideas.
