After three and a half years in the heartland, I thought it would be nice to get to know some people in the area but wasn't sure how to meet anyone since I don't have kids in school, don't work in the area, don't go to church and don't want to join a group that answers a roll call with their favorite flower (I saw this in the local paper). Then I noticed some references to an AAUW group in Atchison and decided to contact them. I went to my first meeting last night; the informal presentation/discussion was on herbs. Turned out the herb expert used to be a labor and delivery nurse and had trained in England as a certified nurse midwife. She had made lavendar cookies - I thought you just put lavendar in sachets and your bath! It was an enjoyable evening - about 15 women of varying ages and varying occupations and interest.

Cynthia, to meet people, you are supposed to get a great, big lovable dog, and walk it to the Laundrymat, but that Church idea really does work, too, and without a pooper scooper, too.
Other people, I know, take education courses at MSU during the peak breeding times.:-)

Sounds like an interesting group.
My favorite flower is white fressia. It smells peppery to me. Though I also really like the blossoms on a Texas Mountain Laurel tree.

I think some people spell it "lavender".
That's very neat you finally got to a meeting! I actually thought about this last week and have been meaning to ask when the first meeting was that you were going to be able to attend. Glad it was interesting and not pretentious or otherwise excruciating. I hope Daddy didn't give you a hard time about going .
How revolting--answering the roll call with your favorite flower?? I think I would be sick right then and there.
